Horacio Rousseau
Associate Professor of Management, Florida State University
I hold a Ph.D. in Management from IESE Business School and specialize in Behavioral Strategy and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), with an emphasis on how organizations address grand challenges such as inequality, sustainability, and refugee settlement. My research focuses on how businesses can develop innovative strategies to manage complex societal and environmental issues.
My interest in strategy and organizations emerged through a simple but enduring question: Why do some firms learn and adapt, while others fall behind despite having the same information or facing similar environments? Growing up in Argentina, I observed firsthand how institutions, environmental uncertainty, and power shaped firm behavior in both visible and invisible ways. This curiosity continues to drive my research at the intersection of strategy, power dynamics, and sustainability.
My scholarly contributions have appeared in top academic journals, including the Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Management, Journal of Management Studies, and Journal of Business Ethics. I actively participate in doctoral advising and have served on numerous dissertation committees in strategy, sustainability, and entrepreneurship.
Whether exploring how firms respond to failure, examining how social pressures influence market dynamics, or analyzing how organizational decisions unfold under strain, I consistently seek questions that matter for both theory and practice.
At Florida State University, I teach undergraduate and graduate courses, including Business and Society, Strategic Management, and Organization Theory (doctoral level), emphasizing practical solutions to pressing global challenges. My teaching philosophy prioritizes critical thinking, helping students understand and assess academic management research, ethical responsibility, and fostering innovation in addressing real-world problems.
Outside academia, I maintain a passion for classical music and literature from around the world, which I believe enriches my perspective on education and research.
